ATHENS, Ohio - The Northern Illinois University wrestling team was dealt another conference loss Friday in Athens, Ohio, with a 33-9 loss at the hands of the Ohio Bobcats.

The Huskies (4-6, 0-3 MAC) got victories from Caleb Busson and Shawn Scott and trailed Ohio (5-1, 1-1 MAC) by only nine with three matches left in the dual. However, a pair of pins late helped the Bobcats take the win.

"We were hesitant tonight and that will catch up with you," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "We need to do a better job engaging our opponent and moving toward an attack to establish control of the match. We will learn from it and make progress."

Ohio gained an early control in the dual win wins in each of the first five matches. After Tyler Argue was dealt a 7-4 loss against Noah Forrider at 141, Rob Jillard faced a similar fate and fell to 19th-ranked Tywan Claxton, 3-1, to give Ohio a 6-0 edge.

The Huskie deficit grew to 9-0 when Andrew Morse lost a 4-1 decision to returning NCAA qualifier Spartak Chino at 157 pounds. At 165, Harrison Hightower pinned Shaun'Qae McMurtry in the first period, while the 174 match between 2013 national tournament qualifiers Matt Mougin and #7 Cody Walters went to Ohio, as Walters earned a 3-1 win to give the Bobcats a big 18-0 lead.

NIU, though, started to forge a comeback when Busson stuck Ryan Garringer with just over 30 seconds left in the first period of the 184 match. Scott kept the momentum going with a tight 6-4 win over Beau Wenger to get the Huskies within 18-9.

Yet, that nine-point deficit was all the closer the Huskies could get, as Ohio closed the door on the comeback. Jared Torrence was pinned by three-time NCAA qualifier and 11th-ranked Jeremy Johnson in the heavyweight match, allowing the Bobcats to clinch the win. Nick Harrison took a 7-3 loss against KeVon Powell at 125, while Braun Marquez was pinned by Kagan Squire to finish the dual.

NIU continues with conference play next Friday, Jan. 17, when they trek to Ypsilanti, Mich., to face the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Two days later, they go south to Ohio to battle Ashland and Purdue in the Wendy's Duals.
