Final Midlands Championships Results

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northern Illinois wrestling team closed out their run at the 49th annual Midlands Championships Friday to officially wrap up the first half of their season.
Rob Jillard had his day come to an end just as quickly as it began, as he was eliminated in the 133-pound wrestlebacks by Northern Iowa's Joe Colon, 10-6.
"Rob had a nice run last night and showed some great intensity," said Huskie head coach Ryan Ludwig. "This morning, he came out strong, but failed to maintain solid position."
Jillard opened the match up with an early 4-3 after the first period courtesy of a takedown and two near fall points. However, the sophomore was unable to carry that momentum into the second and third periods, as Colon stymied Jillard in the second period, then recorded two takedowns and riding time to take the victory.
The Huskies will ring in 2012 on Sunday, Jan. 8, when they host Eastern Wrestling League contender Lock Haven for the inaugural Beauty and the Beast Meet. The dual will be held in the NIU Convocation Center alongside the gymnastics team's season opener against UIC.
