Grant Adds Former Cornhusker to Staff



Dominick Moyer joined the NIU wrestling staff, Monday, after spending six seasons at Nebraska.

DeKALB - Northern Illinois Head Wrestling Coach Dave Grant knows talent when he sees it, which is why he didn't hesitate in adding three-time NCAA qualifier Dominick Moyer to his coaching staff, Monday.

"Dominick is a motivated coach that very interested in taking this program to the next level," Grant said.

Moyer, who wrestled for the Cornhuskers from 2002-07, qualified for the NCAA Championships three times, from 2005-07.

Last season, Moyer was at Nebraska as a volunteer assistant coach with the wrestling team, where he assisted in practice planning and academic development. Moyer also took charge of administrative duties and team travel to open tournaments.

"He's had a lot of success on the national level," Grant said. "He has been involved with one of the top programs in the country as both a coach and a competitor."

During his senior season, Moyer compiled a 28-9 record at 141 pounds that included a second-place finish a the Big 12 Championships. Moyer also placed at the tournament as a junior, when he took third, and as a sophomore, finishing as the runner-up at 133 pounds.

"He brings a lot of expertise to our wrestling program, and we're very excited to have him on our coaching staff," Grant said.

Moyer earned his bachelor of science degree in education and human sciences, with emphasis in nutritional science and dietetics from Nebraska in the spring of 2008. He joins a staff that includes a Division I All-American in Grant, an NAIA All-American in Associate Head Coach Ryan Ludwig, and Assistant Coach Pat Castillo, a fellow three-time NCAA Championships qualifier.
