While the Huskie starters were in Ohio against the Bobcats, a select group of NIU wrestlers went up to Dubuque, Iowa, for the "Flash" Flanagan Open. At the end of the day, two Huskies won their weight classes, while four others finished in the top six of their brackets.
Jordan Northrup and Bryan Loughlin ended up at the top of the podium with each notching very impressive performances. For Northrup, he earned two major decisions, a pin and a technical fall en route to his first place finish. In his final three matches of the day, Northrup outscored the opposition, 39-3. In the title bout, he handily defeated Waldorf's Ray McQueen, 12-1.
Meanwhile, Loughlin was almost equally as dominant. In his four victories, the sophomore outscored his opponents by a 46-9 margin, including a 12-2 major decision against Erik Lux in the final.
Four other Huskies got on the podium, as well. Gabe Morse (149) and Parker Settecase (197) each took third-place finishes, rebounding nicely in the consolation bracket after suffering close semifinal and quarterfinal losses, respectively. In addition, Billy Chancey was fifth at 174 and Shane Rosenberry was sixth at 184.
