DeKALB - The Northern Illinois wrestling team will look to finish the regular season on a high note, when it hits the road to face Buffalo, Saturday at noon.

With a win, the Huskies (4-8, 0-4 Mid-American Conference) can gain league momentum just two weeks out from the MAC Championships. Buffalo will also be searching for a boost before the conference tournament, as the Bulls (9-9, 1-3 MAC) have lost seven duals in a row after winning nine of their first 11 contests.

Northern Illinois has won seven consecutive match-ups with Buffalo, dating back to a 19-15 loss in 2000. Last season, the Huskies won six out of 10 matches, including two pins and a major decision to take a 25-12 win. Current Huskies Tristen DeShazer (Wichita, Kan./Wichita West) and Bryan O'Connor (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) both picked up wins in the match, while 184-pounder Brad Dieckhaus (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) lost a 9-5 decision to Mickey Moran.

Dieckhaus should have the chance to make up for that loss, as 25th-ranked Moran has recorded a 20-9 record this season, and is slated to start Saturday. But that bout should be the only rematch from last year's competition. Out of 20 possible slots, just six combined starters return from last year's dual: DeShazer, O'Connor and Dieckhaus for the Huskies,  and Dan Bishop (125), Moran, and Jimmy Hamel (197) for Buffalo.

Both DeShazer and freshman 125-pounder Izzy Montemayor (Barrington, Ill./Grant) sit at 19 wins this year. DeShazer has already more than doubled his seven wins from last year, and Montemayor can become the first Huskie true freshman to record 20 wins since Ryan Egan won 21 matches and earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships in 1997-98.

The Huskies will take a week off after battling the Bulls, before entering the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich., March 7-8.
