DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois wrestling team unveiled their 2012-13 schedule Friday – a slate that features seven home dates.

Among the 17 meets on the schedule, the Huskies will host 12 different programs, including Big Ten members Michigan State, Northwestern, Indiana and Purdue. NIU will also host 10-time Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan, along with MAC contenders Eastern Michigan and Ohio.

“We are looking forward to the challenges of this year's schedule,” said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. “We are home seven times this season so we hope to pack the house during those events. Each week provides us with an opportunity to grow and ultimately prepare to reach our goals in the post-season.”

Following the annual Wrestle-Offs on Friday, Oct. 26, the team opens their regular season the next weekend when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the EMU Open to take on some of the Midwest’s best.

The following Saturday, Nov. 10, the Huskies open the home portion of their schedule with the Huskie Duals, where Northern welcomes Indiana, South Dakota State, Cleveland State and Tiffin for a five-team round robin. The Cardinal & Black hosts three more teams Nov. 17, when Purdue, Loras and Calumet come to town for the pre-Thanksgiving NIU Duals.

NIU hits the road a little more in December, as three of their four competitions in the month are outside of DeKalb. The month gets underway on Dec. 1 when the team heads to St. Louis for the Kaufman-Brand Open. The Huskies return to DeKalb Dec. 8 for the annual Showcase Meet, where they will take on Michigan State in an afternoon tilt.

Northern opens their MAC slate Dec. 18 when they meet up with defending MAC regular season champ Kent State. The team closes out December when they make the short trek to Evanston, Ill. for the 50th annual Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30.

The Huskies ring in the new year on Jan. 6 with a triangular in Edwardsville, Ill. against Southern Conference members SIU-Edwardsville and Appalachian State. On Jan. 11, NIU hosts the first of four-straight home duals when they take on MAC foe Ohio in NIU’s first home dual of 2013. The homestand continues Jan. 18 with a matchup against conference power Central Michigan, followed by a Jan. 26 tilt with Eastern Michigan.

The home schedule ends on Feb. 8 with a Senior Day showdown against in-state rival Northwestern, while the squad ends their regular season Feb. 16 at Buffalo.

In the postseason, the MAC Championships will take place March 10 in Buffalo and the NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 21-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
