DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois wrestling team opens their jam-packed home schedule Saturday in the NIU Convocation Center when they face Indiana, South Dakota State and Tiffin in the Huskie Duals.

The day opens at 10 a.m. with NIU facing Tiffin, followed by a noon dual with SDSU and a 2 p.m. bout with the Hoosiers. With wins in two of their three duals, the Huskies will reach 500 wins in program history.

"We are excited about competing at home and getting our first taste of dual meet action," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "It should prove to be an exciting day of wrestling here at the Convo."

The Huskies opened the regular season Nov. 3 at the EMU Open, where they got 13 placewinners between the open and freshman/sophomore brackets. Matt Mougin led the way on the open side with a third place showing at 174 pounds, while Shawn Scott won the fresh/soph 197 title in his collegiate debut.

Northern kicks off their dual slate this Saturday against a trio of quality programs. Headlining that list is the Hoosiers of Indiana, who hold a 1-0 dual record so far in 2012-13, with their lone dual coming on Nov. 1 - a 44-12 victory over Division III Manchester University. IU comes to DeKalb after placing six at the Hokie Open at Virginia Tech on Nov. 4. The Hoosiers return three of their four NCAA qualifiers from a season in Taylor Walsh (157), Ryan LeBlanc (165) and Adam Chalfant (HWT).

The Jackrabbits began their regular season at home with nine placewinners at the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D. Despite their youth, SDSU's lineup features a pair of quality seniors in Aaron Pickrel (125) and Dustin Walraven (149) who both placed third in their respective weight classes last weekend.

Meanwhile, Tiffin come into the Huskie Duals after placing three at the EMU Open, with Mike Screptock (133), Joe Miller (197) and Kevin Christman (HWT) all finding their way onto the podium. NCAA Division II National Championship qualifier Jake Cramer will also be a key contributor for the Dragons at 174 pounds.

QUEST FOR 500
Heading into the 2012-13 season, the Northern Illinois wrestling program is only two dual wins shy of reaching the 500-win mark in the program's history. Since starting in 1931, the team has recorded 498 wins against 444 losses and 31 ties.

HISTORY AGAINST THE HOOSIERS, JACKRABBITS AND DRAGONS
Among the three programs, NIU has faced Indiana the most, with the Huskies and Hoosiers meeting for the 13th time. IU holds a 10-2 advantage in the series, with NIU's last win coming on Jan. 5, 2002. Since becoming a Division I program, Northern is 1-1 versus South Dakota State and 1-0 against Tiffin.

A BAKER'S DOZEN
NIU got their regular season off on the right foot Nov. 3 at the EMU Open with a combined 13 placewinners between the open and freshman/sophomore brackets. Shawn Scott won the fresh/soph 197 bracket and Matt Mougin placed third at 174 to lead Northern.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
NIU's schedule will also have plenty of quality opponents, as they face six teams - Northwestern, Appalachian State, Central Michigan, Missouri, Kent State and Purdue - who placed in the top 28 at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

UP NEXT...
The Huskies stay in DeKalb for a second-straight weekend when they host Purdue, Loras and Calumet in the NIU Duals on Nov. 17. The meet starts at 10 a.m. in Victor E. Court.
