NIU: One of four seniors on the 2006-07 NIU roster. Transfered to Northern Illinois from Indiana's Vincennes University where she was a two-year regular for 2003-04 national juco runner-up. First NIU signee for coach Carol Owens.
2005-06: Saw time in 17 games and averaged six minutes per game in those contests. Averaged nearly a point per game and 0.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 29 percent from the field. Grabbed a career-high five rebounds at Illinois (11-29-05) in season-high 14 minutes of work. Also had a pair of boards at Illinois State (11-26-05) and at Ball State (2-28-06). Scored a season-high four points at home versus Ball State (1-21-06) and contributed a season-best two assists with a blocked shot in that contest. Hit 39 percent (7-of-18) of her field goals in nine Mid-American Conference game appearances to average 1.6 points in those contests.
Juco: Became one of three players for VU coach Harry Meeks' 17-14 squad to sign with Division I programs. Earned First-Team All-Region XII juco acclaim. The Lady Blazers' No. 2 scorer at 13.3 points-per-game. Also averaged 4.7 assists and compiled a .356 (53-of-149) shooting touch from behind the three-point arc. Capped her Vincennes career with Lady Blazers' Coaches Award for leadership. During frosh campaign, helped VU produce a stellar 28-6 campaign which ended with Lady Blazers' loss to Gadsden (AL) State University in NJCAA Championship final. Batteast tallied her juco career-best 28 points against GSU. Was Vincennes' No. 3 scorer as a frosh with 12.9 ppg. along with a 4.1 average for assists. Earned Associate of Science degree in General Studies in May 2005.
Prep: Four-year varsity letterwinner with 82 starts in 87 career games played for coach Marilyn Coddens' Washington High program. Averaged 14.2 points-per-game, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as a senior when the Panthers compiled a 19-3 record. Two-time team MVP was also South Bend Tribune First-Team All-Metro and First-Team All-Northern Indiana Conference selection as a junior and senior. Garnered South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week acclaim once as a senior and also as a junior when she averaged 12.4 ppg., 7.1 rpg., and 3.7 assists. Was Honorable Mention All-NIC pick as a sophomore. Finished four-year varsity career with 872 points (10.0 ppg.), 552 rebounds (6.3 rpg.), 340 assists (3.9 apg.), and 173 steals (1.9 spg.). WHS tallied 61-26 ledger during those seasons. National Honor Society member.
Personal: Middle of three children for Janice and Wayne Batteast (father played college ball for the University of Montana). Her older sister, Jackie, was named the 2005 Big East Conference Player of the Year as a senior at Notre Dame, where she was coached by Carol Owens. Athletic role models include sister Jackie, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Jason Kidd. Played AAU ball from 1997 through 2002 with The Family Inc. Major: Sociology. Birthdate: October 8, 1984.
