NIU BASKETBALL POSTGAME QUOTES Bowling Green (85), Northern Illinois (76) Feb. 10, 2007 - DeKalb, Illinois

Northern Illinois Head Coach Carol Owens

"Obviously this was a disappointing loss for us. I felt we were ready to play. Minus the key turnovers and some shots we needed to hit, we were in this game. We got down in the first half - mainly because we committed 14 turnovers in the first half. If we turned the ball over less, we had a better shot. They forced us way outside.

When you play a team like Bowling Green, you can't turn the ball over, because they are going to take advantage of every mistake you make. They are a very good scoring team. One through five for them can all score.

Ali Mann is a very good player for them. She's their leader. She posted up our guard and had a height advantage. They go as she goes. She's hard to defend. We had some tough match-up problems and we needed to go small.

NIU Forward Mary Basic

"We were trying to attack, trying to get to the basket and get layups and draw fouls, but it wasn't there so we had to take the outside shots.

"We had a chance to cut the lead down, but it seemed like we would make a little mistake on defense - not covering the cutter or giving up an offensive rebound. They're a good team, you can't make any little mistakes, they will take advantage of every little mistake.

NIU Guard Stephanie Raymond

"It (the missed three by Kylie York that would have cut it to a six-point Bowling Green lead late), was critical. We got on a run. It shows we can compete with Bowling Green. I feel like we had Bowling Green, but we beat ourselves.

"We've got to come back in practice and focus on Eastern Michigan. We have a lot of fire after losing at their place.

Bowling Green Head Coach Curt Miller

"I'm ecstatic with that win. It was an efficient, workmanlike game for us today. We accomplished the goals we wanted to against them. In particular, we didn't want to put them on the free throw line. And until [Kylie] York hit those three late, we held them to seven free throws. Also a very important stat for us, we are 48-0 when outrebounding our opponent.

"Everyone called this the game we couldn't win. Everyone said we couldn't come here and get the win, and for the first time in a long time, our team felt like a little bit of an underdog. It was a gutty performance by a veteran team, to come here and win.

"I have no idea...how to guard Stephanie Raymond. We just try to make things as hard as possible and make her earn everything she gets. She is, without a question in my opinion, if no one was from our team, she's the Player of the Year in this conference. She's the engine for this program. She has this program going on all cylinders and her contributions will have Carol Owens be a champion in the future. All because of the legacy that Stephanie Raymond will leave here.

"With this team (Northern Illinois), there's an `x' factor in every game. We didn't know if it would be York or Becky Smith but we were able to contain them.

"Jasmine [McCall] had a huge game for us. She was the difference in the game. She took a lot of criticism from me (after the last game), but she came back, showed a lot of maturity and played well. Ali [Mann] likes this arena.

"Our kids were fired up at halftime. The first five minutes had a huge effect on NIU. We talked about having a better first five minutes and being able to kind of make them think about it a little more (coming back). Our kids executed, they made some threes and they played with fiery emotion there.

"We executed. We were efficient and we did a good job executing against the mismatch. The chess match (with NIU coach Carol Owens) was fun. She went small with the guards. She's a phenomenal coach. This game was a great learning experience for us."
