NIU head coach Carol Owens

"I thought this game was huge for us. We got our feet wet with the exhibition game and we knew Bradley was a strong rebounding team and they shot the ball well from outside. I am very proud of how we handled their runs both in the first and second half. When it came down to the last four minutes when we really needed to get stops and rebounds, we did a great job."

"I was really excited about our perimeter game with Marke, Kylie and Courtney. They played a very smart game and its hard to press us with those three in the game. They tried to press us and it was good for us to handle that. We learned and got better as the game went on."

"Our inside presence is very good with Mauvolyene Adams and Ebony Ellis. They did a great job on the boards on both ends."

On being perfect to start seasons...

"There isn't a trick for it and we try to take it one game at a time. Bradley was the biggest game on our schedule and Western Illinois is now the next big game for us. We just take it one game at a time. If we continue to prepare ourselves, get better defensively and rebound, good things will happen on the offensive end."

Marke Freeman

On handling Bradley's press..

"We pretty much knew when it was coming and my coaches just told me to be aggressive. We attacked it and the floor was spaced out very well. Once we got the hang of it and knew what we were looking for, we spaced out the court and had plenty of options."

"The press sped us up a little bit. Coach called a good timeout to tell us we had to manage the possessions and take good shots."

Courtney Shelton

On handling Bradley's press..

"When they started pressing, we just wanted to stay in control and take control of the game. We settled down, ran the plays and executed well to get good shots."

Mauvolyene Adams

On grabbing clutch rebounds late in the game..

"Coach puts me in good positions to make plays. We are all good team players so everybody is always in the right place at the right time. I know my role. My job is to rebound, score and get stops. I do what my team counts on me to do."

On handling Bradley's interior defense..

"We practice against 6'5, 6'6 guys everyday and they have the strength of bears. The way Coach Owens challenges us in practice helps us prepare for the competition that we face."

On pulling away from Bradley down the stretch..

"It shows our level of maturity and how we have grown. It is a matter of us having more heart. Looking how the season ended last year, we have learned from it and grown as a team."
