POST-GAME QUOTES

IUPUI Head Coach Shann Hart
"We knew from previous games [against NIU] that it would be a dogfight from beginning to end. It was a good fight, a good game, a hard-fought game. It wasn't one of the prettiest games. Overall, we put a lot of time in on our press.

"It was a first game for both teams and we were playing a lot of freshmen. They had more experience, but had some new players too. I saw us playing an up and down game tonight.

"I felt like were going to close the gap and I thought it might be even sooner [in the game]. Because of our defensive effort at the end, we regained the momentum after they had closed it to one point. At the end, I had to remind them the clock was who we were playing against and we had to regain our poise and finish the game.

"In the first half I was concerned because were weren't getting to the line and we weren't making free throws. Their offense became more efficient [in the second half]. We didn't do a good job containing Ellis. The big difference was guard play. York and Wilcox didn't get off to good starts and we wanted to limit their touches."

Northern Illinois Head Coach Carol Owens
"I thought IUPUI outplayed us. They got to every loose ball. We had opportunities, but we couldn't turn the corner. We're still learning and getting better. We're disappointed in the loss. We expected to be 1-0, but we've got to work harder to get there.

"Obviously, taking care of the ball will be an emphasis. We didn't reach our goal in turnovers. I know we'll get better, I'm more concerned with the loose balls and getting to those and coming out and attacking from the start.

"In the second half, we started to get the ball into the post. We got some stops on defense, we tried to go zone a little bit and got some easy buckets.

"I was pleased with how Ebony played, especially versus their post player. She had a double double and she can do that every night."

NIU Guard Marke Freeman
"We knew we were at home. We gave it all we had and without the mistakes in the last two minutes, that would have changed the momentum. That [comeback] showed us we can compete and we know where we stand. We'll take this game into the next one and learn from it. Our bench had great intensity tonight. Once we got our opponent on their heels, we did well."
