Northern Illinois vs. Illinois-Chicago
December 20, 2008 - DeKalb, Ill.
UIC Head Coach Lisa Ryckbosch
"We knew Northern is tremendous on the glass. We challenged our kids to be aggressive and physical.
"They went to zone and we panicked. We were victims of our own productivity. When they played us man, we were able to score and that forced them to adjust and play zone.
"I don't understand why we struggled, but the zone gave Northern the momentum. We gave up second shots, had dumb turnovers and dumb fouls. We eventually adjusted and were able to score.
"I have a lot of confidence in our post defense. Obviously our guards didn't do as good of a job. They've got good shooters and they will put it up from anywhere."
Northern Illinois Head Coach Carol Owens
"I felt like we're a good rebounding team and so is UIC. We talked about how important it is for our guards to rebound.
"Kylie has been shooting the ball well and she can get her shot off quick. When we got down 12, she was active in getting open and getting her shot.
"They were a team that played four guards who all looked to drive so we talked about playing a zone. We've played zone here and there at times and felt tonight was a good time.
"This was a huge win because it was our first home win and UIC was 5-1 coming in and had a lot of confidence. They shoot the ball really well. Battling back and going into overtime gives us a good win going into the second half of the season."
NIU Guard Kylie York
"We needed to score [when they got down early in the second half] and get some offense going. Me and Jessie [Wilcox] struggled against DePaul, but we were on tonight.
"It's a very big win. We knew we had to win and we really wanted it.
"I have confidence in our rebounders on the inside. I know we can get offensive rebounds if we don't make the outside shot."
