Freeman Named MAC West Player of the Week

CLEVELAND - Junior point guard Marke Freeman was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals over two games, the league announced Monday.

The Springfield, Ill. native scored a career-high 33 points on just 22 shots against Ball State. She knocked down a career-high six three-pointers, and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals against Cardinals. Three days prior, the Lanphier High School graduate dished out a career-high nine assists in addition to scoring 22 points, grabbing six rebounds and snatching five steals.

Through two conference games, Freeman leads the league in scoring (27.5), assists (6.0), and steals (4.0) per game. She also ranks fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.71 and 20th in rebounding at 5.5 per contest.

A Huskie has now been named MAC West Player of the Week three times this season, the most since NIU rejoined the league in the 1997-98 season. Ebony Ellis has earned the award twice.

Freeman joins Xavier Silas of the NIU men's basketball team, who was also named MAC West Player of the Week Monday.
