Jan. 21, 2010

DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois Basketball is even more affordable in 2010 with the addition of three new ticket package options and special promotional dates surrounding the remaining home games.

Already one of the best values in the region, Northern Illinois has made attending a Huskie basketball game an even better choice for entertainment this year with the addition of the Saturday Family Four Pack, the Huskie "MAC Pack" and the Slam Dunk Saturdays options.

With the Saturday Family Four Pack, a family of four will get four game tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $25 at any NIU men's game and just $20 at any women's Saturday home game. Family Four Packs are sold at the NIU Ticket Office at the Convocation Center on game day.

After surviving a rugged non-conference schedule, the Northern Illinois men's basketball team has started Mid-American Conference play on a strong note, making the Huskie "MAC Pack" an attractive option. With the MAC Pack, fans can get a reserved seat ticket to any four of NIU's remaining Mid-American Conference games for just $28. That's a savings of nearly 25 percent off the single game ticket price.

Can't make the week night games in DeKalb? Check out Northern Illinois "Slam Dunk Saturdays" package. For $24, choose two Saturday men's basketball games and two Saturday women's games. The men's team is at home three more times in January and February, while the NIU women's team still have four Saturday home games, including this weekend as they play host to Buffalo beginning at 2 p.m. (CT).

Current Northern Illinois students receive free admission to all men's and women's basketball games with a valid NIU OneCard. Tickets can be picked up at the Convocation Center prior to each game. In addition, NIU Athletics will distribute student tickets to that week's home games every Tuesday at DuSable and Barsema halls from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are additional opportunities to receive free and discounted Huskie Basketball Tickets to individual games. Saturday, Jan. 23 (NIU women vs. Buffalo) and Saturday, Feb. 13 (NIU men vs. Ball State), have been designated as "Take a Kid to the Game" days. Adults can purchase an upper bowl ticket for just $5 and receive a free youth ticket for that day's game.

Northern Illinois will attempt to "Cram the Convo" for its doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 30 with tickets in the upper bowl available for just $2. In addition, groups of 25 or more get in for just $1 per person. Mailers have been sent to schools, organizations and youth leagues throughout the area promoting this unique opportunity.

Note that the game time for this contest has been moved up to Noon to accommodate a request from the University at Buffalo, which was forced to change its travel schedule. The Huskie men will play Buffalo beginning at Noon on that day, followed by the women's game versus Kent State at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Youth basketball days, high school team days, alumni days and senior days also highlight the 2010 basketball promotions. The women's basketball team will play its annual "Pink Zone" game promoting Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday, Feb. 20, while next Wednesday's men's game versus Ohio (Jan. 27) has been designated as the "Life Goes On" game with information on organ donation available in the Convocation Center Lobby and a special halftime performance by the Jesse White Tumblers.
