DeKALB - Northern Illinois head women's basketball coach Kathi
Bennett announced the addition of forward Satavia Taylor to the Huskies,
Taylor is a mid-year transfer who will be eligible to play for NIU in
the spring semester of 2012. She is allowed to practice with the team.
"Satavia is long, works hard, and has a really great attitude,"
Bennett said. "She's a complete player. I'm really excited about
what she can bring to this program."
After graduating from Bolingbrook High School, Taylor played
one-and-a-half seasons at Loyola (Ill.), where she appeared in 22 games
off the bench. This season, Taylor averaged 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds
in 13.6 minutes per game before being granted her release.
"She got a release, and the minute I found that out I just went
gangbusters after her because she's the type of player that fits me,
fits our system, and fits what we want to build here," Bennett said.
"She is team-first, she is dedicated, she wants to make a
difference, and she is someone that can."
In high school, Taylor was a key member of Bolingbrook's state
championship squad that finished third in the ESPN RISE Fab 50 national
Taylor joins early signees Natecia Augusta (Peoria, Ill./Limestone),
Amanda Corral (Hobart, Ind./Hobart), Janae Jackson (Detroit,
Mich./Inkster) and Claire Jakubicek (Cary Grove, Ill./Cary Grove).
The Huskies are 8-11 and have won their last two games under the
first-year guidance of Bennett. NIU faces road tests at Kent State and
Ohio this week.
