DeKalb -- It ain't over `til it's over applies to the status of the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team when it comes to determining where the Huskies fit into the Mid-American Conference Posteason Tournament puzzle.
A Huskie victory locks NIU into the No. 4 slot in the Mid-American Conference West and a first-round home game on March 4. However, a loss at Ball State combined with a Central Michigan University upset win at Eastern Michigan University means NIU drops to the No. 5 position and will be headed to the MAC East Division No. 4 team (most likely Ohio University). But, if NIU loses and the Chippewas are unable to stop Eastern Michigan from going unbeaten versus West foes, then the tiebreaker gives the Huskies the No. 4 slot over CMU.
Mathematically, the most unlikely scenario still exists to lift Northern Illinois into the No. 3 spot. That would entail beating Ball State to match the Cardinals at 8-8 and then have Central Michigan upset EMU in order to make it a three-way 8-8 tie. From that grouping, the tiebreaker lifts NIU into third ahead of the Cardinals thanks again to the 2-0 edge the Huskies have over CMU while Ball State split with the Chips.
