Northern Illinois University's Whitney Lowe Named Second-Team All-MAC



Lowe is averaging 16.5 points a game in MAC play this season.

DEKALB, Ill.-Northern Illinois University forward Whitney Lowe (Bushnell, Ill./Prairie City) was named Second Team All-MAC the Mid-American Conference announced today.

"It's a great honor for Whitney. She deserves it," NIU head coach Carol Owens said. "She's been our leading scorer in MAC play this season. It's just a testament to how hard she's worked."

Lowe, a senior, is the Huskies' (10-17, 6-8) leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points a game. She's been particularly effective during conference play this season, scoring 16.5 points a game. The lone representative on the all-conference team, Lowe is 19th in the league in scoring and eighth in the MAC in free throw shooting, shooting 80.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Lowe has scored 769 points and grabbed 420 rebounds during hr four-year career at Northern Illinois. She's seventh on the NIU career list for three-point field goals made with 94. She scored a career-high 26 points against Akron Feb. 3, 2008 and tallied three double-double performances this year. She was the Huskies representative on the all-tournament team at the Hawkeye Challenge, averaging 10 points a game for the two-day tourney.

NIU is back in action Monday, March 10 when it travels to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the 2008 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Huskies, the No. 4 seed out of the MAC West will take on the No. 5 seed from the MAC East Kent State at 2:30 p.m.
