Welton's World - Entry No. 13

GO HUSKIES <blank>

March 18, 2008

This is the most difficult blog entry I've had to write thus far, simply because it will be the last I will write this season. After months of intense practice, numerous games, laughs, tears, smiles, and frowns, the 2007-2008 women's basketball season has reached its end. In retrospect, the entire year was somewhat of a rollercoaster ride. It seemed at times our team would reach great heights of success on our home court, only to fall face first on the road. If the empty quests for road wins weren't enough, our team faced other difficult challenges such as the departure of a teammate and the devastation of February 14th.

In the midst of it all, a young, talented, and eager group has emerged from the rubble this past season has left behind. With the skills of those who remain intertwined with new additions, everyone truly believes the tallies in the wins column will be vastly different. Everyone is eager to get back into the gym and getting better to ensure that our program plays beyond the .500 mark next season. With hard work, dedication, and belief in one another and ourselves our goals can and will be reached.

Before I wrap up this blog entry, I want to give a very special thanks and congratulations to Whitney Lowe and Tara Michels on four years in the program. You two have endured a coaching change, injuries, and all the physical, mental, and emotional obligations required to play at this level. Your hard work, dedication, and leadership did not go unnoticed, and those of us who still have years to play at NIU will always be grateful to you. Thank you for being examples on and beyond the basketball court.

To my coaches, thank you for your patience and your unwavering belief in our talent and potential. I believe everyone on this team learned a lot, and will use the highs and lows of this past season as motivation for a more successful one in 2008-2009.

To my teammates, we know what it feels like to win, and we know what it feels like to lose. Now its time for us to solely know what it feels like to win, and by committing to get better in the off-season this will happen.

Finally, I want to thank all of our devoted fans that supported us throughout the year. Your presence at the games and encouragement meant a lot, and will certainly be needed next year. For those of you who have taken the time to read my work, I truly appreciate your interest and support, and I look forward to coming back and guiding you through next season.

Go Huskies!!!!
