DEKALB, Ill.-- Northern Illinois University's Stephanie Raymond has been invited to participate in the WNBA's pre-draft camp being held Mar. 30-31 at Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio. Raymond is a top prospect at the point guard position in the upcoming 2007 WNBA Draft according to several WNBA player personnel departments.
"I am overwhelmed," Raymond said. "I feel one of my childhood dreams have come true. I'm looking forward to playing with all the nationally-known players and seeing how I compare to them and where I stand."
"All that Stephanie's accomplished, all that's she's done this year, this is a reward for her," NIU head coach Carol Owens said. "I'm really excited she has this opportunity to play with and compete against the best players in the country. I wish the best for her."
Raymond led the Huskies in scoring this season, averaging 18.9 points and 6.5 assists a game. She started the season No. 17 on the Huskies all-time leading scorer's list, finishing in fifth with 1,721 points. She set the Huskie record for assists in a season with 201.
The senior guard out of Rockford, Ill. was named to the Kraft MAC All- Tournament Team at the 2007 Kraft MAC Women's Basketball Tournament Mar. 4-10 after averaging 20 points a game in the tournament and was named Most Valuable Player of the Mildred and Roger L. White Tournament at Northwestern. She posted 30-point games against Bradley, Kansas and Toledo and earned MAC Player of the Week honors three times in 2006-07.
The 2007 WNBA Draft will be held in the Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio April 4. The Phoenix Mercury has the No. 1 overall pick. The draft will begin at noon CST and be televised live on ESPN2.
