Last time I blogged, we were finishing up our Position Camp here at NIU. By the way, it went really well. Our players are great coaches. They did so well with the campers by bringing energy and enthusiasm everyday. The camp was a success because of them. I am so proud of my team!!
After camp we got a chance to mingle with some the NIU coaches at Eduardo's Mexican Restaurant courtesy of Rosa Bali (owner), and we danced all night to the beats by our own DJ Ray Gooden. Not only can he coach volleyball, but he can get a crowd moving shaking it on the dance floor ☺.
Just a few days later it was back to business at the office to gear up for our upcoming team camp and USA Basketball planning. I had a conference call with the USA Basketball staff and we are all getting excited about training camp and our trip to Bangkok. We talked about our plans for practice, X's and O's and some important guidelines to share with the team. I am really looking forward to working with Coach Bill Fennelly and Coach Amanda Butler! They are so knowledgeable about the game and passionate about USA Basketball. I can't believe this will be my fourth year with USA Basketball. It is not often that a coach gets asked to part of these four consecutive years. I am truly blessed.
After the conference call, my mom came to DeKalb for lunch. My mom, Cecelia Bolles and I went to Tapalaluna right here in downtown DeKalb and it was delicious! If you haven't tried it, you should. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my parents are coming to Bangkok! I am going to have to watch my mom during our games. We all know how hard she is on the officials. 1-800-BAD-REFF...that's her favorite!
The rest of the week was spent getting organized for our Fourth Annual team camp that is held in downtown Chicago at Moody Bible. This camp is so much fun and it practically runs itself. It is an awesome recruiting tool, and we couldn't ask for a better location. We had some stiff competition and the championship game did not disappoint. Congrats to Proviso West, 2009 NIU- Moody Bible Team Camp Champions!
After the camp was over, I went down the street to Fogo De Chao for dinner. It is a Brazilian Steakhouse. I had never been to this place before, and I was overwhelmed by the amount of food you are served and the pace at which you are served. I think I am still full.
Now that camp is officially over for this summer, I am packing for my trip to Bangkok. We can only bring one bag so I have to pack very strategically. This is not easy for me as I always over pack. But before I take off for training camp, I have to make a very special trip to State College, Pa. to see my best friend. She is having a baby very soon and since I won't be able to be at the delivery, I am going to see her now!
That is it for now but I will be blogging again very soon. Have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend and be safe.
