Hello Huskie fans,
Today we arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina! The flight was about 10 hours. The good news is that we left at 9:45pm EST, which means we could sleep through the night on the plane. We landed at about 9:30 a.m. local time, which is 7:30 a.m. CST.
The weather is cold and rainy, quite the change from the 90 degree weather we had in Washington, D.C. It's winter here in Argentina, but I just wasn't ready to see people walking around in their winter coats in July. I was told that this season lasts for about two and half months.
We are staying at a training facility here in Argentina. Yes, that means the coaches too! Anyone that knows me pretty well knows that I am a bit of a hotel-phobe (don't know if that is a word), so to say the least, but I am making the best of the living arrangements. It's like going back to my NIU dorm days at Lincoln Hall. Yeah right! My mom is coming to visit me and watch the games. I'm sure she will take good care of me, and the team. She always does, just ask the Huskies. Not to mention we need someone to yell at the officials!
All the competing teams will be staying on campus, which is good. The players will get a chance to interact with other players from other countries, learn about different cultures and hopefully make some new friends.
I'm anxious to get started with the games, as I'm sure the players are ready as well. Two weeks of beating up on each other gets old at some point. We have made some progress but still have a ways to go. We tip off against Venezuela on Wednesday, July 23rd. We are determined to bring home the GOLD!
Being further away from home makes me miss my NIU team even more! I am thinking about you all everyday and can't wait to see you soon!
