Well things have been going pretty well after a bumpy start to the competition. We are currently 4-1 and headed into our last game of pool play. We opened with a disappointing four-point loss to Spain. It was a hard-fought game. We trailed early and made a great comeback, but it was to late. We then went on to beat China 88-53, Mali 100-38, Canada 64-50 and Russia 75-56. I was very pleased with our effort in these games, and I know the team is beginning to understand what it takes to win at this level. You can read more about each game at www.usabasketball.com.
In each game we learned something new about ourselves and we are starting to come together. Our defense and unselfish play is what propelled us toward victory and we have to play with the same effort and intensity in our upcoming games. Our next game is against a very guard heavy Japan team. This will complete pool play. Our goal is to win the remainder of our games and take care of business in the medal rounds.
This past Sunday was our day off from competition. We practiced but then had an opportunity to go shopping. We went to the mall and also an outdoor night market called the night bazaar where you can buy all sorts of awesome things and barter for a bargain. I had a great time and will be bringing back some goodies.
I am excited to continue the competition and am looking forward to the challenges that we will face. It won't be easy but nothing worthwhile ever is! I want to say hi to my NIU team and let them know that I miss them very much!
I will blog again after pool play has concluded. Go Huskies and "Think Gold."
