DeKALB, Ill. - Fans have the opportunity to meet college basketball coaching legend Dick Bennett at the Northern Illinois Women's Basketball Fore Hoops Golf Outing, Friday, August 13 at River Heights Golf Course in DeKalb.

Father of Northern Illinois head women's basketball coach Kathi Bennett, Dick accumulated over 300 wins and six NCAA Tournament appearances before retiring in 2006. He guided the 2000 Wisconsin Badgers to the Final Four, and revitalized struggling programs at UW-Green Bay and Washington State with his trademark defense-first philosophy.

Dick will be at the Fore Hoops Golf Outing to support his daughter Kathi, who took over as head coach at NIU in May. The annual women's basketball support event brings together NIU alumni and fans for a day filled with 18 holes of golf, dinner, a live auction, raffle prizes and more.

"I am looking forward to this day so much," Bennett said. "That's because it is a great chance to get together with my new Huskie family, which I am elated to be a part of."

Participants will earn prizes for on and off-the-course accomplishments and get to meet and mingle with Bennett and her new coaching staff.

"The opportunity to connect with our alumni and our fans is something I truly value in my heart," Bennett said. "I believe it is so important to connect with our community. I am anxious to get to know as many people as I can."

Single entries, which include 18 holes of golf, a cart, tee prizes, dinner and awards, are just $100. Foursomes can sign-up together for just $400, and a group can sponsor a hole or a cart for an additional tax-deductable gift.

Registration on the day of the event begins at 9:45 a.m., and players will tee off with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Dinner and a reception will immediately follow the round.

All proceeds from the event directly benefit the Northern Illinois women's basketball program. Fans can sign-up by contacting Cecelia Bolles in the NIU women's hoops office at (815) 753-0586 or at cbolles@niu.edu.
