Jessie Wilcox Named to Preseason All-MAC Women's Basketball Team

DeKALB, Ill.-Northern Illinois University's Jessie Wilcox (Oshkosh, Wis./West) was named to the Preseason All-MAC Women's Basketball Team in voting submitted by league coaches and members of the MAC News Media Association the conference announced today.

Wilcox is the second-straight Huskie to earn preseason all-MAC honors. Stephanie Raymond was named to the prior to last season.

"I'm really excited for Jessie," said NIU head coach Carol Owens. "In her first two years, she's had a tremendous amount of experience playing as an under classman. I feel like she's learned so much from Stephanie Raymond. Stephanie's been a mentor for her. Jessie's really excited and looking forward to the season as well."

Wilcox, a junior, started all 31 games for the Huskies last season and was the Huskies' third-leading scorer with 304 points, averaging 9.8 points a game. She posted a career-high 24 points against Miami (OH) Feb. 3, going 8-13 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. She tallied 17 double-digit scoring games, including 19 points against Ball State Feb. 28 and hit the 16-point plateau twice, at Ohio (Jan. 23) and against Eastern Michigan (Feb. 14). She had a perfect day at Buffalo (Jan. 27), going 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line for 12 points.

Wilcox finished in the top five in every offensive category in 2006-07, including field goal percentage (.404), field goal attempts (7.9), field goals made per game (3.2) and three-point percentage (.387). She posted her first career double-double last season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the Huskies win at Toledo (Jan. 10). Wilcox went 65-81 from the free throw line, shooting 80.1 percent from the charity stripe. She was second on the team in assists with 84, averaging 2.7 a game and finished the season third on the team in steals with 21.

 

 

The Huskies open up the 2007-08 season at home when they play host to Bradley, Nov. 9 in the Convocation Center.
