DEKALB, Ill.-The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the Convocation Center after wrapping up a four-game road trip when the Huskies play host to Milwaukee Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (2-3) went 2-2 during that stretch, scoring victories over Western Illinois and Wagner. Northern Illinois heads into Saturday's game looking to rebound from a 77-62 setback to Bradley Wednesday night. Ebony Ellis (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) and Marke Freeman (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) led the way for NIU, each finishing with 11 points.
Ellis is the Huskies leading scorer with 61 points, averaging 12.2 points a game and is the squad's leading rebounder, with 55 boards on the season. Freeman leads the team is assists with 19 and is tied for the team lead in steals with 10.
Northern Illinois owns a 10-6 overall record in the all-time series, but Milwaukee has won five of the last six meetings. The Huskies won the last meeting, a 55-53 decision at the Convocation Center, Dec. 6, 2003. The Huskies led 55-47 with 1:21 left to play, when the Panthers went on a 6-0 run. The Panthers scored their final basket of the game with :00.6 seconds left to play and the Huskies escaped with the victory. Lindsey Secrest led the way for the Huskies with 12 points, while Jennifer Youngblood was the Huskies' leading rebounder with 13.
Milwaukee has won its last two games and is coming off an 88-65 victory over SIU-Edwardsville Wednesday night. The Panthers opened their season at N.C. State's Wolfpack Invitational, losing to both N.C. State and USC. The Panthers have two players that average in double figures, with Traci Edwards leading the way with 19.3 points a game and Turquoise McCain adding 10.8 a game.
