DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team (7-3) looks to get back on the winning track when it heads to Lawrence, Kan. to take on Big 12 opponent Kansas Friday night at 7:05 p.m. NIU had its five-game winning streak snapped when it fell to the University of Illinois-Chicago Dec. 20.
This is the first-ever meting between the two teams. NIU is 3-2 on the road this year. The Huskies are coming off their 80-62 loss to Illinois-Chicago at the UIC Pavillion. The Huskies have defeated Bradley and Cincinnati and Northwestern at the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational. NIU fell to DePaul, 71-68 on the Huskies' first venture outside the Convocation Center.
The Jayhawks are 3-2 at Allen Field House. Kansas enters Friday game after dropping a 63-48 contest with Indiana at Assembly Hall.
Stephanie Raymond leads the way for the Huskies. She was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 30 points in the Huskies win over Bradley. It was the second time she received such an honor. She's averaging 20.5 points and 5.9 assists a game.
Whitney Lowe is the Huskies second leading scorer with 13 points a game. She is 23-52 from three-point territory. Kristin Wiener is averaging 12 points a game. She leads the team in blocks with 14.
Kansas does not have a single player averaging in double figures this season. Sophomore Marija Zinic and freshman Kelly Kohn lead the Jayhawks in scoring, averging 9.9 points a game. Zinic is the team's leading rebounder grabbing 5.6 boards a game, while Kohn leads Kansas in assists with 2.9 a game.
