DEKALB, Ill.-The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team hits the road once again, this time for a three-game road trip, when the Huskies travel to Indianapolis to face IUPUI Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
The Huskies (4-7) come into their contest with the Jaguars (3-9) looking to build on its 61-46 victory over Northern Iowa at the Convocation Center Dec. 21, 2007. In that contest, Jessie Wilcox (Oshkosh, Wis./West) made her return to the starting line up. She scored a game-high 19 points to lead the way for NIU.
"I hope we can gain some confidence coming off the Northern Iowa game," NIU head coach Carol Owens said. "Being on the road, everyone understands how we want to approach these games and how well we can start games out. Everybody can bring something, whether its offense, defense, rebounding, whatever it is, everybody can bring something."
The series is tied at 1-1. NIU is looking to avenge last year's meeting, an IUPUI victory. The Jaguars won last year's meeting, 73-67, at the Convocation Center (11/14/06). All five of the Jaguars starters finished in double figures. This is the Huskies first visit Indianapolis. The Jaguars come into Saturday's game following a 67-44 loss to No. 17 Notre Dame Dec. 21, 2007.
Following its game with IUPUI, NIU will not return to DeKalb. The Huskies will head to Normal, Ill. to take on Illinois State on New Year's Eve. This road trip gives the Huskies a great opportunity to build on its chemistry before heading into conference play. NIU begins Mid-American Conference play Jan. 9, 2008 at Eastern Michigan.
"We're going into these two road games thinking positive," Owens said. "We're looking forward to the competition. We're going to one game from another, obviously it's a time for us to spend some time together."
