CORPUS CHRISTIE, Texas - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds at the 2014 Islander Classic at the Corpus Christie Country Club Monday.

NIU finished the day with a 623, shooting a 306 in the first round and a 317 in the second. The Huskies are just six shots out of fifth and the other 14 teams trail Lamar which leads the field with a 597. Oklahoma City's Elia Folch leads all individuals with a 143.

NIU's first round 306 is the team's lowest score since shooting a 307 in the first round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Mar. 9, 2013.

Sophomore Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) and freshman Lena Gautier (La Celle Saint Cloud, France/Creteil) lead the way for the Huskies. Both a 153 with Ellett shooting a 76 and 77 in her first and second round respectively, while Gautier shot a first round 75 and a 78 in the second round.

"Lena and Connie did extremely well today," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "The second round started out tougher; a lot more wind. We just threw a couple shots away here and there that didn't help us out.

"We're eight shots out of fourth place. Those can easily be made up. A lot of it was pitching and putting, little things we haven't been able to do outside a lot."

Freshman Sydney Brickey (Burtchville, Mich./Shattuck-St. Mary's) is in 36th after shooting a 158 (78-80) and senior Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) is in 41st after carding a 159 (77-82). Sophomore Samantha Coyne (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) is in 58th with a 165 (81-84) and rounds out the Huskie competitors.

Tee time for final round play at the 2014 Islander Classic is set for 8:15 a.m. CT.
