Sebring, Fla. - The Northern Illinois women's golf team continues to improve, as the Huskies shaved six strokes off of their opening day performance with a second-round 306 to place seventh overall at the 9th Annual Springlake Invitational, at Springlake Golf Resort (par 72, 5,920 yards) on Saturday.

"Our team performance was great today," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "It was a big improvement from yesterday, and most assuredly a big improvement from our opener."

Huskie junior Abbie Many (Mount Prospect, Ill.) fired a career-best score of 73 to finish in a two-way tie for seventh place (148).

"Abbie Many really put NIU on the board today," Tyska said. "I'm really proud of her, she was really solid today and after five competitive rounds in 2007, she's already had a career round. How great is that?"

NIU senior Lisa Bailey (Decatur, Ill.) finished in 30th place with a two-day total of 155 (75-80). Bailey was followed by Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill.) who tied for 33rd with a total of 157 (80-77) and Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill.) who entered the clubhouse tied for 38th with a two-round tally of 158 (82-76).
