TAMPA -The Northern Illinois University women's golf team is tied for third-place and is three shots off the lead at the 23rd Annual Snowbird Intercollegiate hosted by NIU at Pebblecreek Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.

"We played much better today," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "We improved across the board. Kim Bailey posted her career-low and Kelsie Passolt, who is playing as an individual, played very well."

The Huskies shot a 312, with Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West) leading the way shooting a 74, tying her for third place overall. Michelle Caporusso (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and Kimberly Bailey (Gibson, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin Shelby) are tied for 14th after posting a first-round 78.

Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) is tied for 37th after scoring an 82 and Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk) rounds out the Huskie team scorers after turning in a 90. Freshman Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) is tied for 23rd after posting a 79.

Stetson and Georgetown sit atop the team leader board with a 309, while Florida's Nicole Schachner leads the field after scoring a 72.

Final round play begins tomorrow with the first tee time set for 8:30 a.m.
