VICTORIA, Texas - Northern Illinois senior Kim Hunley sits in 12th place, pacing the Huskies after two rounds of the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate at Victoria Country Club. As a team, Northern Illinois is also in 12th place. The Huskies jumped three spots from the end of round one to the completion of the 36-hole day. NIU shot a two-round score of 656, seven strokes out of the tournament's top-10. "The key word of today is almost; we are almost there," NIU head coach Pam Tyksa said. "Some of the players are hitting the ball longer, and with the additional roll in Texas, that's getting them in some trouble." Oklahoma leads the 16-team field with a score of 611. Individually, Sam Houston State's Landa Stewart totaled a 147 (74-73) to hold first place. Hunley played through the dry conditions to card rounds of 78-77. She was one of three Huskies to improve their second-round scores, along with Keslie Passolt Michelle Caporusso. "Kim Hunley played the most consistently," Tyska said. "I love to see that second score drop in a 36-hole day." Passolt lowered her first-round 86 to an 82. She is tied for 63rd place, overall. Caporusso bounced back from an opening round 88 to tally an 82 on her second trip around the course. Caporusso and freshman teammate Allie Parthie are tied for 68th. Parthie opened up with an 83 before carding an 87. Kim Bailey rounded Northern Illinois' top five. Bailey played a nine-over 81 in her opening round, and shot a 171 overall. Huskies Mandi Vavrinchik and Jessica Parmenter participated in tournament as individuals. Because both are recovering from injury, they were only medically cleared for an 18-hole day. Parmenter tallied an 81, while Vavrinchik completed her round with an 84.
