IPFW Spring Invite First Round Results
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team sits in fourth after the first round of play at the IPFW Spring Invitational Sunday afternoon.
NIU shot an opening round 315 and is seven shots behind leader Indianapolis, which finished the day with a 308. Regan Pittard of Indianapolis leads the field with a 73 four shots ahead of NIU's top golfer Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East).
"We had the last tee time so we had the most wind, probably 20-30 mph winds toward the end," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "The first few tee times had a little better playing conditions.
"I know we shoot a lot lower than we did today tomorrow morning. For us tomorrow it's going to depend on our putting. We didn't make a lot of puts today. Overall, the girls did decent considering the wind."
Niemiec is tied with nine other golfers after posting a first round 77. Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) is a stroke behind her and is in 16th place with a 78.
Casey LaBarbera (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) and Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) are tied for 26th after carding a first round 80. Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) rounds out the Huskie competitors after shooting a first round 81, good for 33rd place.
The Huskies complete competition at the IPFW Spring Invitational tomorrow. Tee time is set for 9 a.m. Central Time.
