Round 1 Results
PEORIA, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team sits in 10th place after posting a 333 in the first round of play of the Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic hosted by Bradley at WeaverRidge Golf Club Saturday.
Freshman Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) leads the way for the Huskies, shooting an 80 (38-42) and is tied for 16th, while junior Amanda Vavrinchik (Elmhurst, Ill./York) is tied for 31st after shooting an 82 (41-41) in her first event since the Huskie Classic. Michelle Caporusso (Mt. Prospect, Ill./ Prospect) is tied for 43rd after shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine.
"Kelsie did well today," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "Amanda shot well. We really needed her. I'm very proud of Kelsie and Amanda. Amanda played solid in her first tournament since the Huskie Classic."
Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West), who is battling the flu as well as the course, is tied for 60th after posting an 87 (45-42) and Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) is a stroke behind Hunley in 67th after scoring an 88 (42-46). Kim Bailey (Gibson, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin Shelby) sits in 69th place after carding an 89 (46-43).
Carissa Burdi (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett), who is competing as an individual, rounds out the Huskie competitors, sitting in 70th after finishing with a 90 (47-43).
Missouri State leads the team leaderboard with a 308 and MSU's Amy Phalaljivin leads the field after firing a 74. MAC rivals Ohio sits in eighth (325), while Bowling Greenis 12th after posting a 340.
