PEKIN, Ill. -The Northern Illinois University women's golf team finished in third place after scoring a final round 308 at the Bradley Invitational at the Pekin Country Club Sunday.

The Huskies finished the tournament with a 622, just five shots out of first place. Southern Illinois won the event with a two-day total of 617 (309-308). Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville won the individual title with a 146 (73-73).

"It's nice to move up, but it's kind of bittersweet," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "We moved up, but we were five shots out of first, and in the last three holes, which we've had some issues on in the past, got us again. As a team, we were nine over on the last three holes. We need to do a better job of closing it out."

Freshman Lena Gautier(La Celle Saint Cloud, France/Creteil) led the way for the Huskies, finishing in ninth after shooting a final round 75, five strokes less than her first round score, to card a 155.

"Lena had a couple birdies in earlier holes," Kester said. "That helped her bring her score down to 75. She pulled a couple shots off today, that were pretty hard shots to pull off. She found a way to get it in the hole with as few shots as possible."

Freshman Sydney Brickey (Burtchville, Mich./Shattuck-St. Mary's) and sophomore Samantha Coyne(Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) finished in 13th after posting a 156. Coyne cut two strokes off her first round score to post a final round 77, while Brickey carded an 80 in her final round.

Sophomore Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) finished in 17th after trimming five strokes off her first round score of 81 to card a 157. Senior Jenny Niemiec's(St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) 161 (79-82) put her in 28th and rounds out the NIU team scores for the event.

Taylor Ellett(Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire), who is playing as an individual, finished in 36th after posting a 164 (82-82).

Originally scheduled to be played at WeaverRidge Golf Club with 36-holes Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday, the Bradley Invitational was moved to Pekin Country Club and was shortened to a 36-hole event due to unplayable conditions at WeaverRidge.

NIU returns to the course Saturday when the Huskies travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the Delores Black Falcon Invitational. Tee time is set for 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
