NIU Women's Golf Team Leads by Seven Strokes at the Loyola Invitational

Mundelein, Ill. --After opening day action at the Loyola Invitational, the NIU women's golf team leads the five-team field by a comfortable seven strokes at the Pine Meadow Golf Course (par 72, 6010 yards) on Monday. Three Huskie starters entered the clubhouse in the top-five and freshman Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill.) is leading the pack with a five-over par 77, good for second place. Butler's Niki Garden currently occupies the first-place slot tallying a 73 (+1). Loyola's Lucy McGovern and Hunley share second-place, both shooting a 77 (+5). Lisa Bailey (Decatur, Ill.) and Abbie Many (Mount Prospect, Ill.) round out the top five posting a 78 (+6) and 79 (+7) respectively. Northern Illinois sophomore Jackie Bobrowicz (Lemont, Ill.) shot a career low round of 83 while teammates Allison Williams (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Ashley Lods (Monticello Ind.) tallied an 85 and 88 respectively. NIU Head Coach Pam Tyska is pleased with her team's performance thus far. "The conditions at tee-off were rather cold and windy, but we got off to a decent start, Tyska said. "However, when the weather warmed up and the wind calmed we started to play much better." NIU leads the tournament with an opening round score of 319 while Butler University is in second place with a 326. There is a tie for third place between Loyola and IPFW, both submitting scores of 333. Cleveland State sits in fifth place carding a score of 342.
Final Round action is slated for a 9:00 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start on Tuesday. --NIU-- |
