NASHPORT, Ohio - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team was unable to gain ground in the final round of play and finished eighth at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships at Longaberger Golf Course Sunday.
NIU shot a 983 (324-330-329) for the tournament and was 18 shots out of seventh place. Kent State won the team title with a 909 and Jennifer Ha of KSU won the individual championship with a 222.
Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) finished in 26th with a 243 (81-79-83), improving on her 30th place finish in last year's tournament. Casey LaBarbara (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) took 29th after shooting a 245 (79-83-83) in her first MAC Women's Golf Championships.
Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) posted a 248 (81-85-82), while senior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) took 38th after carding a 252 (83-88-81) in the final tournament of her career. Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) held on to 44th after scoring a 263 (91-83-89).
"It was not a good tournament for us, but we showed a lot of positives through the week" said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "It was raining the entire time today so it was good to see Allie end on a positive note. Overall, it was a good season. I'm very happy with the improvements made and look to continue that into next year."
