NORMAL, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team is in 13th after two rounds of the Redbird Invitational at Weibring Golf Club Sunday.

"It was good to get out there and compete," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "It was good to us handle 36 holes. This is the first time a lot of them have done 36 holes in one day. It was good to get our feet wet with that because we're going to have a few of those tournaments this year.

"We gave a lot of putts away that we wish we could have made but we look forward to move up the leaderboard tomorrow. The girls know what they need to improve on tomorrow."

NIU played 36 holes on Sunday shooting an opening round 317 and followed that round up with a 318 in the second round for a Day One total of 635. Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) paces the Huskies after carding a 156. Connie Ellett shaved eight strokes off her first round 82 to shoot a 74 on her second 18 of the day and is tied for 37th.

"Connie played extremely well," Kester said. "She turned it around on the second 18 and kept the ball in play. It was fantastic to see her come out and play so well."

Freshman Sydney Brickey (Burtchville, Mich./Shattuck-St. Mary's), in her first collegiate tournament, shot a 158 (76-82). Casey LaBarbera (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) also posted a 158, shooting a first round 76 and an 86 in her second round. Both are tied for 49th.

Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) is in 69th after shooting a 163 (83-80), while Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) rounds out the Huskie competitors. Taylor Ellett is in 73rd with a 165.
