Green Bay Final Round
GREEN BAY, Wis. -The Northern Illinois University women's golf team climbed up the leader board in the final round to take second at the Green Bay Invitational Tuesday.
"It was extremely windy, so it was playing tough for everybody," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "The greens were still quick. The girls did pretty well. Obviously, there were still a few shots we gave away, but you're going to have that to start the year.
"Overall though, I'm extremely happy with how they did. They fought it out until the end and that's what you'd like to see."
The Huskies, which were in third place after the first round of play, posted a 641 (320-321) for the tournament, winning the tie-breaker with Butler to finish ahead of the Bulldogs and finishing behind first place Indianapolis (629).
Senior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) and freshmen Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) finished in the Top-10 with Parthie leading the way with a two-round total of 151 (73-78) to finish third. Connie trimmed two strokes off her first round total of 79 to move up five spots and finish her first collegiate competition tying for ninth with a 156.
"She had a bitter taste at the end," Kester said of Parthie's final round. "She double-bogeyed and bogeyed the last two holes, a way you never want to finish. However, she was in contention to win it today."
Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) posted a final round 84 and finished with a 163 to take 19th place. Casey LaBarbera (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) made the biggest jump of the day for NIU, climbing 15 spots to 38th after posting a second round 82 and finishing the tournament with a 171. Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill.) rounds out the Huskie golfers as she finished in 56th after carding a 179 (90-89).
