First Round Results
DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of play at the Green Bay Invitational at the Green Bay Country Club Monday.
Junior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) leads the way for Northern Illinois after posting a first round 75, two shots off the leader Ann Vrdolyak of Loyola who carded a 73. The Huskies shot a 319 and is 10 strokes behind Lewis University (309).
"Allie played really well, really solid," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "All our preparations at Kishwaukee Country Club have really prepared us for anything the golfing Gods may throw at us. Everybody had a really good day today. Certainly, there are some things were looking forward to making up for tomorrow, but I couldn't be happier. There is so much improvement over last year."
Senior Katie Kuhn (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale) is also in the top 10 after shooting a 78. Seniors Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) and Carissa Burdi (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) each shot an 83 to tie for 31st, while freshman Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) is 44th with a first round 85.
Butler is in second with a 310, while Loyola is third after posting a 313. Chicago State rounds out the top five as the Cougars shot an opening round score of 322.
The teams return to the course tomorrow morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
