YORKTOWN, Ind. - Sophomore Kelsie Passolt broke 80 for the second-consecutive day, carding a seven-over par 79 to secure a 10th place finish for the Northern Illinois women's golf team at the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind., Sunday.
"We're very pleased with how we played this weekend," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "We really gutted out some solid rounds. We'll continue to focus on playing a little more consistently, and making some more putts.
"Mandi (Vavrinchik) played very well, and it was good to see Jessica (Parmenter) out there competing again. She hasn't been able to play much golf with that back injury, so it was exciting to see her out there with her teammates."
Passolt's two-round total of 155 (76-79) was good for a 31st place tie individually. Senior Mandi Vavrinchik (159) and freshman Allie Parthie (160) also placed in the top-50, tying for 46th and 50th, respectively. Vavrinchik's four-over par 76 was NIU's low individual round of the day.
Senior Kim Hunley improved her 18-hole score by two strokes in Sunday's round, carding an eight-over par 80 after shooting 82 in Saturday's opening round. Junior Jessica Parmenter shot a two-round total of 164 (81-83), and freshman Allie Parthie posted a two-round 160, including a one-over par 73 in Saturday's opening round.
The women's golf team will host the NIU Huskie Classic next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 27-28) at Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, Ill.
