EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team trimmed 12 strokes off its first round score, but was unable to gain ground to finish fifth at the SIUE Intercollegiate presented by Double Tree hosted by SIU-Edwardsville.
NIU shot a final round 332 to finish the tournament with a 676. Two Huskies placed in the top 10 with junior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) leading the way. The most improved Huskie golfer for the tournament, Parthie shot a final round 76 to finish the two-day event with a 158 and moved up four spots on the leaderboard to finish third.
"I'm very proud of Allie to hang in there and have her lowest round in our final round of play," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "Allie has played two really good tournaments back-to back, but we desperately needed more support from the rest of the team for her."
Freshman Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire), who finished the day with a 166 (85-81), made the biggest jump up the leaderboard. Ellett, who was 16th after the first round of play, finished in eighth place.
Southern Illinois won the event posting a two-round total of 632. Austin Peay State and the host SIU-Edwardsville Cougars tied for second with a 663, while Eastern Illinois finished with a 672.
Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) also improved in her final round, cutting four strokes from her first round score of 90, finishing with a 176 and tying for 31st with teammate Katie Kuhn (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale). Carissa Burdi (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) rounds out the list of NIU competitors as the Huskie senior finished in 45th after posting a 189.
