DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team improved in the final round of play to finish in seventh place at the 27th annual NIU Huskie Classic at Kishwaukee Country Club Sunday.

The Huskies, who were in eighth place entering the final round of play, received some improved performances in the second round of play to trim seven strokes off their first round score. NIU shot a final round 337 to finish the tournament with a 681.

"We had anywhere from a slight improvement to a vast improvement from day one to day two," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "Unfortunately, we were just short on our timing. Just last week we had 318, 312 so I thought we'd be in great shape. Indeed we would have, but we didn't get those numbers this time."

Freshman Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) made the biggest improvement shaving six strokes off her first round score of 95 to finish her first NIU Huskie Classic with a 184 and tie for 61. Carissa Burdi (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) saw a five-stroke improvement in her final round of play, shooting an 85 to finish with a 175 and tied for 42nd.

Senior Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) climbed up seven spots on the leaderboard to tie for 28th after trimming three strokes off her first round score to finish with a 171 (87-84).

Two Huskies, Allison Van Heuklom (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and Casey LaBarbera (Marinette, Wis./Marinette), who were playing as individuals, had the biggest improvement on the day. LaBarbera cut eight strokes off her first round 94 to shoot a 176 and tie for 46th, while Van Heuklom shot an 83 to finish with a 173 and placing 34th.

SIU-Edwardsville held off Loyola University to win the tournament with a 646. Lindsey Lammers of Detroit-Mercy stormed to the front of the leaderboard in her final round of play cutting 10 strokes off her opening round 82 to win the tournament with a 154.
