Final Results

Huntley, Ill. - The 24th annual Huskie Classic came to an end today as Loyola Chicago claimed first-place with an overall team score of 639, just one stroke better than second-place finishers Bowling Green and Western Illinois and just three strokes better than the fourth-place Huskies.

"As a team, we put up a valiant fight, but unfortunately to reclaim the tournament championship we needed to get close to each of our personal bests," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "We will concentrate on the positive things from the past two days and eradicate the things that kept us from the top of the board and carry it into having a successful spring season in Florida."

Individually, Loyola's Nikke Miller took top honors with a score of 155 and NIU junior Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) finished in a three-way tie for second place with Lauren Oh (Loyola) and Megan Bader (Bowling Green) as they all tallied 156 strokes. Hunley also took home the 2008 Huskie Sportswoman honor.

"As always, we are very proud of Kim Hunley," said Tyska. "She led us through a majority of the fall. She came within a couple shots of a career-low.

"We are very proud to have Kim chosen as 2008 Huskie Sportswoman. There are some pretty special people on that list who have moved on to professional golf and successful professional careers. On behalf of NIU and our golf program, we can't be more proud of Kim."

Huskie sophomore Michelle Caporusso (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect/Michigan State) tied for fifth with Bowling Green's Megan Gormley as they both totaled a score of 157.

"Michelle is playing really well," Tyska said. "She had one bad hole that set her back, but she should have been flirting with the top scores. It's her first year with us and we like what she is doing and we look forward to seeing what she can do for us in the spring."

The Huskies resume play in the spring, starting with the Baja Invitational on Monday, February 23 in Baja, Mexico.
