NASHPORT, Ohio. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team completed the fall portion of its schedule with a top-10 finish at The 2012 Preview at Longaberger Golf Club Tuesday.

Under much better conditions, the Huskies trimmed 10 strokes off their first round score, shooting a 319 to finish the tournament with a 648. Northern Illinois is one of eight MAC schools that are getting a preview of the course which will host the 2013 MAC Championship April 26th. Ball State won the event with a 621, with Bowling Green (624) and Eastern Michigan (625) in second and third place, respectively. Toledo finished fourth, while Akron fell to fifth. Western Michigan was seventh, while NIU finished in 10th, one spot ahead of Ohio.

"We did pretty well, obviously an improvement from yesterday to today," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "Conditions were a lot better today. The course played a lot shorter, there was no wind. The girls did well. Obviously, there are still little things that need keep working on. Overall, we're getting better each tournament and that's what you want to see."

Senior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette), who has been nursing a wrist injury, finished the fall strong, taking fifth with a 153 (76-77), three shots out of first. Ball State's Meghan Perry won the event with a 150.

"She did well," NIU head coach Kim Kester said of Parthie's performance. "With her not hitting for two weeks, she did extremely well. She got up when she needed to. For her, it was her short game and she kept the ball in play."

Freshmen Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) carded a 161 (81-80) to finish in 32nd. Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) cut five strokes off her first round score, shooting a 167 (86-81), while Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St Charles East), who made the biggest improvement on the day trimming seven strokes off her first round score, finished in 67th with a 169 (88-81). Casey LaBarbera (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) rounds out the NIU golfers, finishing in 68th with a 170 (86-84).

The Huskies return to the course Mar. 8, 2013 when the Huskies travel to Rio Verde, Ariz. to compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational.
