FLORIDA GULF COAST LEADS BY THREE STROKES AFTER FIRST ROUND OF SPRINGLAKE CLASSIC
SEBRING, FL --- On the strength of a junior Adrian Secrest's first-round 74, Florida Gulf Coast College shot a 313 as a team to lead by three strokes after Friday's (March 7) first day of the Fifth Annual Springlake Classic, hosted by Northern Illinois University. A pair of team's are five strokes back through the first 18 holes.

"The tournament was gone well," NIU coach Pam Tyska said. "The weather was beautiful. It was just a little windy. We're playing a new course and it's in great shape. The folks as Springlake added nine holes this year, so all of us are still getting a little use to the course. All of the top ten individuals are under 80 so we've got some good leaders in the tournament. It will be a tight race tomorrow for medallist and the team title."

Secrest is alone in first place with Cori Mozingo of Ohio University and Kristen Kennedy from Western New Mexico University one stroke back. Of the 55 players in the field, the top 12 are all within five strokes of one another with two other golfers, Amanda Brown (76) of Nova Southeastern University and Western New Mexico's Kim Crammer (77) trailing by just three shots.

With all five golfers in the tournament shooting 81 or under, the Lady Commodores took a three shot lead over Western New Mexico during the first loop. The Lady Mustangs posted four scorers of 83 or better to finish the day at 316. Nova Southeastern was next at 318, while Lynn University turned in a 320. The host Huskies, playing in their first event of the season, fired a 356.

The final 18 holes will be played on Saturday (March 8) with a 9 a.m. (EST) shotgun start.
