Leads The Northern Illinois Women's Golf Team At Peggy Kirk Bell
Classic, Huskies Finish 13th The University of Miami (FL), who finished with a three-day total of 910, won the event by five shots over host Rollins College, who finished with a 54-hole total of 915. North Carolina-Greensboros Polly Willett won the event with an 8-over-par 224 in a one-hole playoff. Jackie Heslop (Pequot Lakes, MN) led the Huskies as she shot rounds of 81-79-81--241 to finish 25th and earn her highest showing of the young spring season. One of NIUs top performers throughout the fall, Heslop was followed by freshman Lisa Bailey (Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham) who used a career low 78 in the second round to finish 44th. Jackie Heslop and Lisa Bailey both had good tournaments for us and have been instrumental so far this season, head coach Pam Tyska said. Lisas performance in the second round was terrific and will be a great stepping stone for the rest of her freshman year. Were used to having to search for a fourth scorer, but now we are looking for both a third and fourth scorer. It shows we need some help from our other players. We have played five competitive rounds in-a-row and tomorrow we will our first day off. Last season, we were able to recharge during our day off and finish up strongly. I am hoping that is the case again this week. Jackie Bailey
(Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham) finished third for NIU with rounds
of 85-87-79 to claim a tie for 57th, while Irish Whalen (Hanover/River
Ridge), Jamie Carney (Rolling Meadows) and Allison Williams (Hoffman
Estates/Palatine Fremd) rounded out the NIU scoring. Whalen finished
69th with rounds of 89-86-86--261, Carney shot 85-91-87--263, while
Williams finished up by shooting 91-87-89 to claim 72nd.
