NIU Women's Golf Team Tied for Ninth at the Illini Spring Classic

URBANA, Ill.-The Northern Illinois University women's golf team tied for ninth at the Illini Spring Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club after shooting a 334 in the first round of play. "We were playing in subfreezing wind chills and the first round was reduced to 18 holes today. We're going to try and get 36 holes in tomorrow," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "We had three decent scores considering the conditions." Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk) leads the way for the Huskies, shooting an 80 tying her with six other golfers. Schultz shot a 42 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine. Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) is right behind her after shooting an 81 in the first round. Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) is tied for 21st after shooting an 82. Jessica Parmenter (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) and Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) are tied for 63rd place after shooting 91. The Huskies sit 15 strokes off the lead and trail fellow Mid-American Conference foe Toledo by 12, but lead MAC foes Western Michigan and Bowling Green State two and 20 strokes respectively. The 15-team field will conclude play at the Illini Classic tomorrow. They will attempt to 36 holes, depending on the weather conditions. Tee time is set for 8 a.m.
