Paces Northern Illinois Women's Golf To Seventh At Illini Spring
Classic
URBANA, IL --
On Friday, Northern Illinois womens golf head coach Pam Tyska
got the complete team effort she had been searching for. Saturday,
the teams consistency came through, as the Huskies fired a
final-round 312 to finish seventh at the 12-team Illini Spring Classic
in Urbana, IL.
Jackie Bailey equaled a season low with a final-round 75 to tie
for 17th. After opening the day in 20th place, Bailey toured the
par-72 Stone Creek Golf Course in 3-over-par fashion to move up
three spots in the final standings. That finish was a season best
for Bailey, who tied for 18th at the Western Illinois Westerwind
Classic on Sept. 12, 2003.
Jackie Heslop made the biggest jump up the leaderboard on Saturday,
after firing a 4-over-par 76. Tied for 36th entering the day, Heslop
knocked five strokes off her opening round score (81) to tie for
26th with teammate Lisa Bailey. While a final-round 81 pushed Bailey
back to 26th, the freshman still earned the fourth top-30 showing
of her rookie campaign.
Jamie Carney and Ally Williams both improved by one shot during
Saturdays finale. Carney finished with a two-day total of
161 to tie for 39th, while Williams shot 84 during the final round
to tie for 51st.
This was the final tune-up for the NIU womens golf team before
the 2004 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Huskies will
travel to Indian Springs, OH, to participate in the April 23-25
MAC Championships, which will be hosted at the Walden Ponds Golf
Course.
