NIU Women's Golf Team Travels to Bowling Green

April 13, 2012

DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team travels to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the Falcon Invitational this weekend.

"We look forward to returning to Bowling Green this weekend. The layout resembles Kishwaukee Country Club and we have been well prepared in the past to compete there," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "We practiced in terrifically windy conditions here since returning from Jacksonville and more often than not the winds howl at Bowling Green as well."

NIU is one of 12 teams participating in this year's tournament, joining fellow Mid-American Conference schools Bowling Green and Ohio, as well as local foes Chicago State and Loyola. It's the Huskie's final tune up before the MAC Championship April 27-29 in Fishers, Ind.

Junior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) and freshman Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) will lead the way for Northern Illinois at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots by virtue of their performances at the Marsh Landing Invitational. Parthie finished in 18th, shooting a 232, while Ellett took 38th with a 240. Parthie is averaging 79.0 a round, while sophomore Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) is right behind with an 82.6 average.

Northern Illinois has finished in fourth in the two times the have competed at the Falcon Invitational. They fired a 652 (334-318) in 2010 and a 333 in the weather-shortened event in 2011.

The Huskies will play a round of golf on Saturday and Sunday. Tee times are set for 8 a.m. Central Time with a shotgun start both days.
