BAILEY AND
WARRICK'S TOP-10 FINISHES LEAD NORTHERN ILLINOIS TO SEVENTH AT BRONCO
INVITE
PORTAGE, MI -- The Northern Illinois University women's golf team
began the spring half of the schedule looking to rebuild, with only
two upperclassmen to lead the squad. The Huskies seem to be working
towards that goal after carding a 670 (336-334) and picking up a
seventh-place finish at the Western Michigan Bronco Invitational.
Freshman Jackie Bailey (Decatur / Warrensburg-Latham) led
the Huskies, tallying a 161 (79-82), to finish in ninth place. Bailey's
ninth place finish is the first time she has finished in the top-10
in her young career. Janelle Warrick (Neenah, WI) continued
her final season with the Huskies by posting a 163 (84-79) to finish
directly behind Bailey in a tie for tenth.
Junior Irish Whalen (Hanover / River Ridge) played two consistent
rounds, carding a 173 (87-86) in the 36-hole event. Ally Williams
(Hoffman Estates / Palatine Fremd) continued her inaugural campaign
with the Huskies shooting a 176 (86-90). Freshman Jamie Carney
(Rolling Meadows), playing in only her third event of the year,
shaved four strokes off her first round to finish at 178 (91-87).
Western Michigan University did not play the gracious host, as they
bested Grand Valley State by 31 strokes for the team title. The
Broncos also dominated the individual leaderboard, putting five
players in the top-13. Erica Bieniek led the way, earning medalist
honors with a 150 (75-75) besting her teammate Jenna Walter and
Bowling Green State University's Shelley Binzel by four strokes.
The Huskies will take a week off before closing out the season at
the Mid-American Conference Golf Championships April 25-27. The
league summit will be held at the Walden Ponds Golf Course in Indian
Springs, OH.
